Sportive fishing

At Riccione, highly equipped motorships set out every day during the summer to take visitors out fishing.

The most common fish in these parts is a type of light-blue mackerel up to 35 cm in length and weighing up to half a kilo.
The boats set out at 5 a.m. The waters are then sounded for shoals of mackerel and, when these are found, bags of “fish food” (pressed and salted sardines used as bait) are lowered into the water to attract the shoals and start fishing.
You return to the mainland at midday and a delicious fish lunch or dinner is prepared at the kitchen of Riccione Restaurants.

Sport offers Riccione

There is also tuna fish – from the small “palamita” to the prized red tuna of the Adriatic that can weigh up to 300 kilos. Tuna is fished 20 miles off the coast between May and October. The motorships provide the “fish food” bait.
To take this opportunity and get away from the mainland you are recommended to book in advance.
Mackerel and tuna fishing is a fun and engrossing sport and you do not need to be an expert to practise it.

There is a fleet of boats for hire and many motorships that take tourists on a tour of the sights and attractions along the Adriatic coast of Emilia Romagna. In the summer, boats set out from Rimini, Riccione, Cattolica and Bellaria Igea Marina on a daily basis – also in the evenings – offering panoramic mini-cruises along the coast and past its many beautiful bays and mussel farms. There is music and entertainment on board, and barbecued fish and wine are included in the price. You will stop off at Rimini for a dolphin show in the Delphinarium and at Cesenatico to visit the Acquarium, the old Leonardesque “canal harbour” and the “Museo della Marineria” (Marine Museum). You can also go on a motorship trip to Venice, Porto Rose and Lussino.
Contact the IAT Offices of the Province of Rimini for any further information and to book a boat outing.

There are also comfortable, high-speed ferries to Croatia and Slovenia every day from June to September. They set out from the ports of Rimini, Cesenatico and Ravenna and head for Rovigno, Lussino and Zara. For further information: www.emiliaromagnalines.it/
