Triathlon is a relatively new sport combining three of the most popular and commonly practised disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. The three sports are rolled into one for those people who truly love competition, team sports and, above all, keeping in shape.
Participants have to move from one stage of the competition to the next without stopping, to demonstrate their strength, resilience and, not least, good coordination skills as the activities involved - swimming, pedalling and running - all differ markedly.
If it is triathlon you’re after, then Riccione is the place to be: it has a safe and quiet sea, marked cycle-tourism routes and an 8-kilometre seafront perfect for running along.
It should come as no surprise therefore that Riccione hosts a broad range of triathlon events.
‘Classic’ triathlon, as practised at the Olympics, involves swimming for 1500 m, cycling for 40 km cycling and, lastly, running for 10 km – although the distances can differ according to the athletes’ age and technical ability.
