Recreational activities absorb the child and can distract him from the difficulties that are part of each trip.
The monotony of motorway, the impossibility to move, especially if one is still at the age of car’s chair, the less care that parents can give to the little baby, all that rain…
Resorting to funny expedients that keep occupied the child in car or in any other means of transport is clearly a choice dictated by common sense, more than advisable if there are many kilometres to cover.
Many games have to do with counting, as the “game of numbers on movement”, where at the departure each participant chooses a figure that he will search around him during the trip and that he will signal when he finds it.
Many others with the vocabulary, such as “reverse”, where you will have to guess the words that someone will read backwards, or “one minute of words” where given an initial letter people have to make a list of all the items that will cross their mind.
Others require a preventive preparation, as “tombola in car” with the various means of transport that must be designed on scorecards instead of numbers. And again: titles of songs to be fished in a bag and to be sung as well as people can, memory tests, the mythical “it is arriving a cargo full of…” that at least once in our life has committed all of us!
In short there are many games on the road, but there is nothing to prevent you from inventing some new!
And if they will not make the happy family of iconography of American’50s, at least they will help to make travel more carefree and to make easily manageable children.
