The IGP nectarine peach of Romagna

Archiviato in: FOOD & WINE — arininchi @ 11:38

pesca nettarina romagna igp Sweet, smooth, fragrant, white or yellow pulp, compact to the touch and crisp to the bite, nectarines never miss as snack for the sea.
At least in Romagna, the cradle of the European production of nectarines and peaches, the only one inside the Union to boast the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP). A rigid disciplinary protects their typicality and the close link with the territory of origin.
The IGP sticker certifies their recognition.

Different from true peach, for the smooth and not velvety skin, among the many varieties, nectarine has known over the years the wider increase.
In particular, in 2002 the birth in Ferrara  of the Consortium for the Protection and Development of IGP Peaches and Nectarines of Romagna has opened important perspectives both in Italy and abroad.

Witty advertisings have enhanced their quality and promoted their consumption.
Protagonists: a peach and a nectarine on the beach with sunglasses. Incisive the slogan: Sapore di sole,  sapore di Romagna.

To the sweet fruit is dedicated the “Nectarines of Romagna cycling tour” that, to its 13th edition, has been held from May 21 to 25, 2008.

Mysterious for their origin, popular tradition considers them the product of the graft of a peach on an hazel.
They are so good that on spring their beautiful pink flowers on trees make already our mouth water.
Then finally June arrives and they become precious companions of our summer.

Rich in C vitamin and potassium, they also have a good presence of beta-carotene which stimulates the production of melanin and has an antioxidant action.

On the market from June 10 to September 20, we thank Adriana, Rita Star, Ambra and Super Crimson nectarines to be early varieties and Venus, Sweet Red and Sweet Lady to be late.
With the excellent organic production of the cooperative “Terre Solidali” of Gemmano - the first farmer’s market in the province of Rimini - we are waiting for you in our hotels in Riccione for a long season of sea and snacks… IGP nectarines of Romagna.
