Windsurf in Riccione
A blow of wind is enough to colour the sea line of Riccione: there are the windsurfs. And even the spirit of who is just taking a look, fills of inebriation.
From black and white photography of California at the end of the Sixties to the videos on Youtube at present, windsurf is now a popular sport. It is born from the intuitions of James R. Drake, which, for first, endowed with sail the surf board.
Once extreme and spectacular sport right for physiques endowed not only with muscles but with courage also, the windsurf acquired in the years a different connotation.
In 1984 the interest caused by this discipline carried the International Olympic Committee to insert it into the Olympic World of Sports.
To the first exotic named destinations (Fuerteventura, Guadalupa), a more reassuring ones (Margaret River, St Ives Bay).
Thanks to innovating materials, in the last ten years there was a crescent popular
approach to this sport. In fact with the adventurous spirit there is also a big fun, which makes windsurf a sport for families, practiced now everywhere. Even in Riccione you can learn to surf in windsurf school. Currently in Italy the community of windsurfers is of about 50.000 people, with also other 150.000 “precarious”. Women and children represent a significant part of it.
The worldwide success of this sport is tested even by some fashion lines, many agonistic events (sponsored by important brand) and by the Windsurf Day, an unavoidable appointment organized every year in Cattolica, on the Adriatic Coast.
The windsurf is the need to explore, the escape in a spectacular setting, the myth of the perfect wave, the dream to exceed the barrier of the 50 nodes. But it is also a fun, the feeling of staying between sky and sea, of plunging themselves in nature to love it.
